PITCH DECK

If you’re curious about the origin of this name, we invite you to visit the Wikipedia page.

In this section, however, we want to explain what a pitch is and how we create them at Financial Researches.

WHAT IS A PITCH?

A pitch is a presentation, usually created using tools like PowerPoint, Keynote, Emaze, etc. – but other formats are perfectly fine too. In these cases, being original pays off.

The goals of a pitch can be many, but here we’ll focus on those that relate to our core activity: presenting a project to potential investors – whether they are business angels, venture capital firms, public funding bodies, or simply a board of directors.

WHAT SHOULD A PITCH INCLUDE?

Beyond the format, a pitch should cover the following points:
• Who are you? (Team introduction)
• The problem (What issue are you solving or what opportunity are you seizing?)
• Your solution (How do you plan to solve it?)
• Target audience (Who is your product/service for?)
• Market (The context you aim to operate in)
• Competitors (Do they exist? Who are your direct competitors?)
• Competitive advantage (Why are you better than them?)
• Financial slides
• What’s your valuation?
• What equity are you offering?
• Exit valuation
• Exit timeline
• Exit strategy
• Mention of shareholders’ agreements (if any)

Length and Structure of the Pitch

The “classic” pitch is supposed to last 5 minutes. In our opinion, that’s nonsense — we’ve never seen a presentation that short.

It’s true that investors need to manage their time, but 5 minutes are simply not enough. Typically, a pitch presentation lasts about 40 minutes, excluding the pleasantries: 20 minutes for the actual presentation and 20 for Q&A.

Therefore, a pitch should last around 20 minutes, with roughly twenty slides. Financial slides are usually just briefly mentioned, and will likely be the subject of specific questions from investors
